PD Center

PD Center courses are free online courses that can be used to fulfill Act 48 requirements.  Each course is moderated and is self-paced. Courses are either 90 or 180 days in duration, and there are alternate assessments available in Courses 1-8 for educators who are not currently in a classroom teaching position.

Please spend some time exploring the PD Center.  Step-by-step instructions are available here:

MySAS Exploration - PD Center

There are currently over 50 free professional development courses available in the SAS PD Center.  Pennsylvania educators are eligible to receive Act 48 credit upon successful course completion.  A PPID number is required in order to receive Act 48 credit for any classes taken in the PD Center.  Users without a PPID number will be able to take Courses, but will not be able to receive Act 48 credit unless a valid PPID number is entered into their Profile.

To register for courses and to view full course descriptions, locate the PD Center in Teacher Tools and click on the Class Registration tab.  You are able to read a summary description of each course and preview all of the assignments prior to registering.

There are job-embedded activities found in all of the courses that require educators to integrate the knowledge and skills learned within a course into the classroom. If you currently are not a full-time teacher or you have an educational role that supports students outside of the classroom, SASPD courses 1-8 contain alternate job-embedded activities that allow you to fulfill all course requirements to obtain Act 48 credit.

Effective Strategies Supporting Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Instruction, Teaching in the 21st Century: The Need for Change, and K-12 Math Open-ended Problem Solving, contain numerous job-embedded activities that require classroom implementation. If you are unable to meet these requirements, please enroll in SASPD courses 1-8.

Please note: Educators may only take one of the Effective Strategies courses offered in the SAS PD Center. These include Effective Strategies Supporting Language Arts Instruction, Effective Strategies Supporting Mathematics Instruction, Effective Strategies Supporting Science Instruction, and Effective Strategies Supporting Social Studies Instruction.
